Kenwood Ladies’ Pond became a dedicated bathing space for women in 1926. It is nestled in beautiful Hampstead Heath and offers a tranquil and serene swimming experience in deep, opaque water surrounded by incredible greenery. This stunning spot holds a special place in many people’s hearts and is a welcome escape from City life. Its peaceful environment allows swimmers to feel close to nature and wildlife whilst enjoying all the benefits of cold water swimming.
My aim with this ink and pencil drawing was to capture all the things that make this place so unique and special. I focussed on the beautiful colours reflecting in the pond, mainly from the incredible trees which encircle it. I also wanted to show off the wildlife living harmoniously with visiting swimmers - all enjoying the calmness and tranquility of this charming natural bathing pond.
This original piece was drawn using ink and pencil on Fabriano Aquarello watercolour paper. It is mounted on a high float, resting on a ‘minuet’ board to compliment the fabriano paper. It is framed with a slim black wooden frame. The glass used in the frame is anti-reflective AR70 to both protect and preserve the drawing, and also ensure the highest quality visual experience with very little reflection or glare to distract the eye.
Paper size: W 62cm x H 47.3
Frame size: W 70.8cm x H 56.2cm
