Highbury Square, Arsenal Stadium 1913 - 2006
This ink and brush-pen drawing of Arsenal’s old stadium is a real nod to the club’s rich history and captures the essence of a building familiar to many a Gooner for many a year. Highbury Square was the home of Arsenal Football Club for 93 years between 1913 and 2006. This particular aspect of shows the protected Art Deco facade of the East Stand, drawn exactly as it is today. It has kept many of the original Art Deco features from when the East Stand was refashioned in the 1930s and Art Deco was at its peak. During its renovation post Arsenal years, the North Bank and Clock End were demolished while the Grade II Listed buildings of the East and West Stands remained part of the development. It’s an incredible building with a rich history, known affectionately fans as the ‘Home of Football’ for many years. What a privilege to draw!
This piece was drawn using ink and brush-pen on Bristol paper, enabling me to really capture the fine detail in the art deco architecture and give lovely depth and a sharp, vibrant finish. This piece is mounted on a high float and framed with a black wooden frame. The glass used in the frame is anti reflective AR70 to both protect and preserve the drawing, and also ensure the highest quality visual experience with very little reflection or glare to distract the eye.
Paper size 62.4cm x 49.7cm
Frame size 74.3cm x 59cm
