Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End

from £40.00

What a building. What a history! I absolutely loved drawing Hornsey Town Hall. I wanted to capture a moment in the rich history of this beautiful building which not only holds so many memories for so many people but also has been such a central part of Crouch End for so long. This modernist art-deco iconic building was designed by architect Reginald Uren in 1933. When the building officially opened in 1935, it was named by RIBA as the best building in London that year. A hugely cultural place it has seen performances from Queen (one of their first ever gigs), ELO and the Kinks and has been used as a film and television location over the years. It was also the Hornsey Council Borough Headquarters from 1935 - 1965.

This was certainly an interesting piece to draw. The bricks have a beautiful subtle variation in colour and the architectural detail surrounding the main entrance is incredible, as are the fabulous iron balconies. This piece was drawn using ink and pencil on A1 size Fabriano watercolour paper. My aim was to capture all the vibrancy and tiny details in the architectural features of a building we all know and love.

This is a landscape, unframed giclee print. This drawing is printed on premium photo rag paper (300gsm), providing a high quality, archival piece of art at an affordable price. It is available in 4 sizes: 8”x6”, A4 (297mm x 210mm), A3 (420mm x 297mm) and A2 (594mm x 420mm).

Prints are sized to fit standard frames. Framed options are available to N2, N6, N8, N10, N11 and N22 residents. Please email hilarysketches@gmail.com for more information.
