East Finchley Tube Station
This underground station is Art deco at its very finest. A beautiful grade II listed building situated in the heart of East Finchley which simply oozes character. It was first opened in 1867 but completely rebuilt in the late 1930s. The new station was constructed in an Arte Deco/Streamline Moderne design by architect Charles Holden. A strong and much-loved feature of the station is the semi-circular glazed stairways leading to the enclosed bridge over the tracks. Dominating the main entrance facade is The Archer, a 10 foot tall statue by Eric Aumonier, commemorating Finchley’s ancient association with hunting in the nearby forest of Enfield.
